The Otter, the Spotted Frog & the Great Flood (Children's Book~Review)

Disclosure: I received the book below from Wisdom Tales Press to help facilitate my review. All opinions are my own and honest.

"There were two animal people who lived in the long ago..."

The story of The Otter, The Spotted Frog & The Great Flood is retold by Gerald Hausman. It is based off of the Georgia Creek Indian story telling about the first man and the first woman. This story throws in wisdoms to listen to your elders and nature.

Listener the Otter was told to build a raft because there is going to be a flood. But does he listen to Spotted Frog? Does he build the raft? After the flood starts you are brought through the story from animal to animal. Then eventually to man. Follow the characters through the book as they see what is happening around them and learn where life is directing them.

Ramon Shiloh's colorful artwork really brings this story to life.  While the artwork on every page is unique, but as you read from page to page you still get a strong sense of continuity. My favorite images in the book are that of the manatees and the fish!

Weaving in traditional values and the idea of listening to nature, first man and first woman lived on earth "..the earth was good to them, so they say, and they were good to the earth in retun."
